Weekend escape – Viscri, Romania

Viscri – an amazing place to re-energize

Viscri is a small village, which at first gave me the impression of abandonment, which it almost was in 1989 when the Roma people started occupying the abandoned houses and learned how to restore them. Now, Viscris’s population is of Roma majority, with a few Romanians and about 20 Germans. The village its best known for its fortified church, originally build around 1100. It is part of the villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, designated in 1993 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The fortified church gives you an amazing positive charge. It has a great few, which was not ruined by the modern world.

You can visit the church by yourself with no restrictions. You can touch anything, take photos and enjoy the history. The only sign that I have seen sounded something like this: “you can go up at your own risk”.

A peaceful atmosphere, with kind people which are very eager to answer to all your curios questions.

I think that the pictures below will better describe the amazing day we had there and will convince you to pass by if you have the chance.
